EGC Sizing Intro

Equipment Grounding Conductor (EGC) Sizing

Solar Design Calculator: Calculate minimum equipment grounding conductor size per NEC 250.122 based on overcurrent protection device rating. Supports both copper and aluminum EGC sizing with automatic adjustments for long circuit runs per NEC 250.122(B). Ensures proper equipment grounding for PV source circuits, AC output circuits, and all electrical installations.

Overcurrent Protection Device (OCPD)
Breaker or fuse rating protecting the circuit
Equipment grounding conductor material
Voltage Drop Adjustment (Optional)
If circuit conductors were upsized for voltage drop, EGC must be proportionally increased

About EGC Sizing
The Equipment Grounding Conductor (EGC) provides a low-impedance path for fault current to facilitate rapid operation of overcurrent protective devices. Per NEC 250.122, the EGC must be sized based on the rating of the OCPD protecting the circuit. For circuits where conductors have been upsized for voltage drop considerations, NEC 250.122(B) requires proportional increase in EGC size.
